NIA vs 36 accused persons — human trafficking case, Bengaluru involving Bangladeshis and Rohingyas

Eighteen bonded labourers, including two children, were rescued from a brick kiln at Bevinahalli village in Mysuru district, Karnataka. Three kiln owners have been arrested and charged with bonded labour, human trafficking and related offences. Workers reported being trapped for extended periods after receiving advances.

The Telangana police registered one of the first cases in India of human trafficking committed for the purpose of forcing victims to commit cyber fraud. At least 149 human trafficking victims were involved in the operation, which was identified during a joint Interpol operation.

A victim was trafficked from West Bengal to Jammu and Kashmir at the age of 16. She was forced into the trafficking situation for over 8 years and was unable to contact her family, though she eventually sought to reconnect with her parents.

Multiple human trafficking cases were registered by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) in Khunti district, Jharkhand. Chargesheets have been filed in these cases related to human trafficking offences.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches across three districts in Bihar (Gopalganj, Saran, and East Champaran) to investigate a human trafficking case involving a youth allegedly trafficked to Cambodia and forced into cyber fraud activities.

A Supreme Court judgment delivered in May 2026 in the Prajwala case, described as a significant victory for anti-human trafficking advocates. The case relates to human trafficking and forced labour practices in India.
