Pilots' Association of India v. Director General and State of Maharashtra — NGT environmental violation case

The Supreme Court upheld an NGT order dismissing a challenge by the Gujarat Pollution Control Board regarding environmental liability for an unlicensed dye-based manufacturing facility operating on rented premises. The facility was generating harmful effluents in excess of permissible limits into water streams. The NGT had directed closure and imposed a ₹25 lakh penalty, finding that the property owner could not be held solely liable for the tenant's violations.

A 20-year-old murder case involving the death of Pawanraje Nimbalkar, an ex-Congress leader. The CBI filed a chargesheet in 2009 naming former Union minister and NCP heavyweight Padamsinh Patil as the prime accused and alleged conspirator, claiming a conspiracy due to apprehensions about political career damage and anger over corruption allegations. Eight accused, including Patil, were acquitted.

A 65-year-old accused was convicted and awarded death penalty for rape and murder of a minor. The case gained attention for the speed of investigation and trial. Police collected evidence from multiple sources and coordinated with forensic experts. A comprehensive chargesheet of 1,200 pages was filed on May 16.

The NGT's western zonal bench directed expert institutions to assist in determining whether an environmental compensation penalty of ₹137 crore levied by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board was scientifically and financially justified. The case involves review of environmental damages and compensation calculations.

On May 19, 2024, a minor allegedly driving a Porsche car crashed into a motorcycle in Kalyaninagar, Pune, killing two IT engineers (Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta). The case involves accusations that the minor was under the influence of alcohol. A separate investigation was launched after allegations that the minor's father and others tampered with blood samples to conceal evidence.

Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi are accused of orchestrating a massive fraud at Punjab National Bank's Brady House Branch in Mumbai by allegedly obtaining fraudulent Letters of Undertaking (LoUs) without following due process, causing losses estimated between ₹13,000–14,500 crore to the bank. The CBI registered an FIR and has filed multiple chargesheets before a Special CBI Court in Mumbai — the ED has conducted parallel PMLA proceedings and attached assets worth over ₹18,000 crore. Both primary accused remain at large outside India: Nirav Modi is held in UK custody pending extradition, and Mehul Choksi was arrested in Belgium in 2025 with an Antwerp appellate court having cleared his extradition to India. The domestic trial before the Special CBI Court in Mumbai is ongoing, with supplementary chargesheets continuing to be filed as recently as March 2025.
