Public Interest Litigation seeking restoration of Satluj on ZEE5

A Public Interest Litigation was filed seeking steps to expedite NDPS trials and tackle drug abuse. The Supreme Court issued notices to the Centre and States demanding action on expediting NDPS cases and addressing the national drugs problem.

A writ petition (W.P. (Crl.) No. 288/2026) was filed in the Supreme Court seeking directions to the Centre and States to expedite NDPS proceedings and implement systemic reforms. The petitioner prayed for mandatory timelines for forensic science reports, standardized search and seizure procedures, and constitution of special courts for speedy NDPS trials.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court granted regular bail, holding that prolonged pre-trial incarceration can justify bail despite the rigorous conditions under Section 45 PMLA.

The investigation was completed and a chargesheet was filed in September 2025. The accused applied for bail in January 2026, which was granted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on grounds of prolonged pre-trial incarceration.

A CBI investigation into alleged corruption involving suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Bhullar and his aide Krishanu Sharda, who were arrested for an alleged bribery scheme. Sharda was apprehended while allegedly accepting Rs 5 lakh as part of a demanded bribe. A chargesheet was filed by CBI on December 3, 2025, and the court subsequently framed charges.

Over 200 operatives linked to the ISI-backed Shahzad Bhatti network were arrested ahead of Independence Day 2026. The NIA chargesheeted Bhatti as an absconder along with other accused. In the Sirsa case, the NIA named nine people in its chargesheet in May 2026, including Bhatti and Pakistan-based handler Sohail Ahmad alias Sohail Baloch.
