State vs. Accused — Dowry death case (trial stage, Uttar Pradesh)

A case involving charges under Sections 304B and 498A IPC related to dowry death. The Allahabad High Court reviewed the conviction and reduced the sentences to time already undergone, noting that life imprisonment is not automatic in dowry death cases.

Actor Darshan and multiple co-accused are charged in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy. Darshan was arrested on June 11, 2024. The Karnataka High Court granted bail to Darshan and co-accused on December 13, 2024, which the State of Karnataka appealed to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court reserved judgment on the State's appeal on July 24, 2025.

Mukesh Singh and four others were convicted for the gang rape and murder of a 23-year-old woman on a moving bus in Delhi on December 16, 2012. The case drew nationwide outrage and resulted in death sentences for the four convicts (Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma, and Akshay Kumar Singh), who were executed in February 2015. A fifth man and one juvenile were also involved in the crime.

A one-and-a-half-year-old boy named Arshid allegedly died at the hands of his stepfather in Nedumangad, Thiruvananthapuram. The Kerala High Court ordered expedited chargesheet filing, though the State later reported delays due to pending forensic reports.

A 19-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly gang-raped and murdered in Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh in September 2020. The CBI filed a chargesheet in December 2020 against four accused persons. In March 2023, an SC/ST court acquitted three of the four accused; one was convicted of culpable homicide, and gang-rape charges were dropped against all accused.

The Luthra brothers and their business partner were arrested in connection with a nightclub fire in Goa that killed 25 people. Chargesheets allege culpable homicide not amounting to murder, negligent conduct regarding fire, forgery in obtaining permissions, and criminal conspiracy. Their bail was initially granted in April 2026 but was cancelled by the Bombay High Court.
